On Saturday, 30 May, Brocor Auctions hosted an elite goat auction on behalf of the Royal Genetics Group at Engedi Manor in Krugersdorp, Gauteng.
The current South African record for a Savanna ewe stood at R240,000.
“As Lot 39 from Maize Valley entered the ring, we all knew there was a possibility of breaking the record,” said CR Botha, head of livestock at Brocor Group.
Well-known auctioneer Danie Strauss opened the bidding at R50,000 and brought the hammer down at R270,000, setting a new South African record for a Savanna ewe. The animal was purchased by Hakuna Matata Stud Breeders.
As if that were not enough, the previous South African record was broken a second time when Lot 55, also from Maize Valley Savannas, entered the ring and sold for R260,000 — again to Hakuna Matata Stud Breeders.
“Brocor would like to thank all the breeders — namely Triangle Farms, Maize Valley, and Karsten — for providing top-quality animals. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the buyers for supporting this auction both on the floor and online via CDP Online Auctions. It was a privilege to be part of this special occasion,” said AJ Du Plessis, CEO of the Brocor Group.
